Wright-Patterson is home to the 88th Airbase Wing shoe primary mission is the support and deployment for the Global War on Terrorism. The Air Force Material Command is headquartered at Wright-Patterson as well as the United States Air Force Medical Center and the Air Force Institute of Technology. Wright-Patterson is one of the most historic bases in the Air Force. Many public education opportunities are available at Wright-Patterson including elementary, middle school, and high school. Home schooling and private schools are also options as well as gifted student and special needs programs. Adult education is handled by the Education Office which offers college preparatory testing such as the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT and the CLEP tests. If students are in need of the General Equivalency Diploma (GED), they can contact either Fairborn or Stebbins High School.
There are over 1,600 family housing units available on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The units are divided into three distinct neighborhoods. Military Family Housing was privatized in 2002 and is now operated by the Properties at Wright Field. Through the privatization, over 750 additional new homes were built in the Woods and the Prairies neighborhoods of Wright Field. If military personnel are E-1 through E-4 and have less than three years of service, airmen are required to stay in dormitories. Off-post housing can be arranged with approval for the Airman and Family Readiness Center. The housing office can help with BAH rates to determine which property would be within the allotted assessment provided by rank. The Wright-Patterson Inn provides temporary lodging. The office is located in Building 825 and has over 200 suites and single rooms. Call 937-257-3451 for reservations. Most facilities have private bathrooms and are pet friendly. Mini-efficiency apartments are also an option.
